From the Cockpit...

My name is Chad Addy. I have worked in the airline industry for over eighteen years. During this time, I have worked for three different companies. Currently I work for United Airlines, where I am a Captain on a Boeing 737.

The entire time I have worked in this industry I have been a commuter. For those unfamiliar with that term, it means that I do not live in the city I am based. I have been based in many different cities during my career. I have always commuted out of Sioux Falls, SD. This means I get on a flight in Sioux Falls to travel to the city I am based in to start my trip.

When I travel for work, I usually travel in the back with the rest of the passengers on that flight. I am usually in my uniform because I have to start working when I land. While in uniform, I usually get asked a lot of questions relating to my job and the aircraft. Over the years I have realized most people tend to ask about the same questions. I am always happy to answer questions and help people feel more comfortable about flying.

The author of this book, Joy Berg, approached me at the airport as I was commuting for work. Since we are from the same small town, she told me about her idea to write a children’s book about flying. I thought it was a great idea. She told me she had a list of questions that she wanted to send me. After looking over her questions, I realized that they were like most questions I usually get asked.

After answering all of her questions to the best of my ability, she started to write her book. She included me in the process of creating this amazing children’s book. While my part was small in comparison to the author, I really enjoyed being part of the creation of the book. I fully recommend this book anywhere books are sold. I truly believe it will help answer a lot of the questions children and adults may have all while being entertained by the cute story.
