Joy Berg is a South Dakota elementary teacher and the author of Ready for Takeoff. Inspired by her own son's fear of flying, she set out to create the book she wished she'd had before his first flight.

Working with a commercial airline captain and family friend, Joy combines reassuring storytelling with real aviation facts to help children understand airplanes, build confidence, and enjoy the adventure of travel.

When she's not teaching or writing, Joy loves exploring new destinations with her family and encouraging young readers to ask big questions and discover the world with curiosity and courage.
